New Audi A3 Quotes

Performance

Launched as a three-door hatchback, the third generation A3 range is available as a five-door Sportback and four-door saloon to directly rival the Mercedes-Benz CLA class. Starting off with a powerful 1.2-litre petrol engine the A3 will complete the benchmark sprint in 62mph in 10.3 seconds and has a top speed of 120mph.

Comparably the 1.6-litre TDI will reach 62mph in 10.7 seconds from a standing start and goes to a top speed of 121mph. Both models handle similarly to the A1 series and stack up against the rival Volvo V40.

The standout engine in the A3 series is the S3 2.0-litre TFSI which will get from zero 62mph in an impressive 5.1 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.

Running Costs

The cheapest version to run is the A3 1.4-litre TFSI SE Sportback, although the temptation is there to go for the 2.0-litre diesel engine. When compared to the similar Mercedes CLA Saloon which has attractive styling compared to the A3 but the majority of its engines are not as clean, meaning that the A3 will be on average cheaper on whole-life costs. The A3 remains cheaper to insure, it is lighter, more refined and handles better than the similarly priced Volvo V40 Hatchback.

Equipment

Three trims are available, each with a different suspension setting: SE, Sport and S line (both have a lower ride height than the standard SE version. The entry level A3 comes with 16-inch ’10-spoke’ alloys.
