The SEAT Leon ST Cupra 280, a new upcoming performance model, has set the record for the fastest lap for an estate car at the famous Nurburgring Nordschleife track.
The challenging 12.9-mile Nurburgring circuit is used by many manufacturers to test their latest performance cars. Last year the SEAT Leon Cupra hot hatch set what was at the time the fastest lap around the Nurburgring for a front-wheel drive car.
SEAT has revealed the Leon ST Cupra 280 set a lap time of 7 minutes and 58 seconds around the Nurburgring. Not only is this a faster time than any other estate car which has driven this circuit, it even beats the time set by the lighter, three-door Leon Cupra last year by 0.4 seconds.
What makes the latter fact more surprising is the fact the Leon ST Cupra 280 uses the same 276bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and standard six-speed manual transmission as its hatchback counterpart. An automatic DSG gearbox is also available for both bodystyles. The ST Cupra can complete the 0-62mph sprint in six seconds, which is just 0.3 less than the hatchback equivalent.
The Leon ST Cupra 280, which completed the Nurburgring run, featured semi-slick performance tyres, worth £460, and the optional Sub8 Performance Pack worth £2,025.
Customers who order the Leon ST Cupra 280 will be able to choose a couple of performance packs which are called Black and Orange. Both add some additional and distinct body kit, new wheels and upgraded sport brakes.
The SEAT Leon ST Cupra 280 is available to order now and prices start from £28,505.
