Mini has revealed the new Countryman John Cooper Works, the first 4x4 Mini hot hatch ever launched in the UK.

The five-door Countryman is the largest model in the Mini range and the latest to get the John Works treatment. This includes a new 1.6-litre, BMW-sourced engine delivering 218hp.

Acceleration from 0-62mph takes seven seconds and a top speed of 140mph is possible with a manual gearbox (139mph with an automatic transmission specified).

The hot hatch comes with Mini's all-wheel drive system and comes with a revamped chassis, high performance brakes, sports suspension and anti-roll bars.

Dynamic traction control, stability control and even a sports button to sharpen up the engine and provide a more exciting exhaust noise are standard on the new model.

Cosmetic touches include muscular body kit, new side skirts and red, white or black body colours with John Cooper Works logos throughout.

Inside, expect a high-end interior available in four- or five-seat options and fitted with sports seats and black trim with contrasting red stitching.

The new Mini Countryman John Cooper Works will go on sale in the Autumn from £27,800.
