Research by Derwent Management Services has found that Mazda has increased its market share with 20 of the UK’s largest contract hire and leasing companies to 2.5 per cent.

Following an increase of almost 21 per cent in the first ten months of the year Mazda is the biggest mover in the sector increasing its share faster than Audi, Ford and Volkswagen.

Overall it is the 12th most popular manufacturer among the biggest leasing providers in the UK and it’s the Mazda6 that is proving the Japanese company’s most popular model.

The D-segment is littered with heavyweights and stalwarts like the Ford Mondeo, Volkswagen Passat and the Honda Accord however the Mazda6 provides an alternative to the default choices.

Mazda’s Fleet and Remarketing Director, Peter Allibon said: “The analysis shows that Mazda is closing the gap on some of the UK’s most popular company car providers as some brands have seen their market share slip in 2010.

“Not only that, but among key rivals the Mazda6 is gaining momentum as demand for the Insignia, Passat and Mondeo has fallen in 2010, according to the leasing company data" he continued.
