Infiniti has released a new high-performance FX model inspired by the two-time F1 champion Sebastian Vettel.

This new performance crossover Infiniti FX model will include many upgrades from the standard FX such as a smoother body design and a more powerful V8 engine. Throughout the design process it was made sure that everything met Vettel's requirements.

This new engine allows the FX to accelerate to 0-62mph in just 5.6 seconds, and gives it a massive top speed of 186mph.

The new FX also has better handling with stiffer suspension and a reduction in a lot of its weight with new light weight alloy wheels.

Infiniti executive vice president Andy Palmer said: "Doing the FX Sebastian Vettel version for Frankfurt was fun, but it's also a kind of pilot.

"We wanted to test the organisation and see if it could cope with this type of special version. Sebastian's FX demonstrates we are able to do low volume specials and the FX Sebastian Vettel version is one of the first that will go to market."

The standard Infiniti FX luxury crossover has interior features such as full colour central display, parking sensors with display, Bluetooth, climate control, electric glass roof and a seven speaker sound system with CD player and USB/iPod compatibility.

More luxurious features in the old FX are things like a leather multifunction steering wheel, leather seats and foldable seats for times when you need a little bit more room.

Infiniti, Nissan's luxury arm is a relatively new manufacturer in the UK market and the sporty but luxurious XF crossover is aimed at the likes of BMW, Mercedes and Audi in the competitive premium market.

The new performance XF signals the brand's attempts to compete against AMG and M, Mercedes' and BMW's performance signatures respectively.
