Ford has revealed a new performance version of the Fiesta with only 1000 on sale in UK showrooms.

The Ford Fiesta Metal comes with an improved 1.6-litre Duratec petrol engine which delivers an increased 134PS and 160Nm of torque, 14PS more than the standard 1.6-litre engine offering with the Fiesta.

This is enough to put the new Ford Fiesta Metal into warm, if not hot, hatch territory. The Fiesta Metal is capable of hitting 62mph from standing in 8.7 seconds.

The model is based on the Zetec-S, one of the mid-range Fiesta specifications, but adds a host of new equipment.

To match the improved performance, Ford has added some sporty highlights such as chrome twin exhaust pipes, 17" alloy wheels, sports tuning and a lowered ride height.

Cosmetic touches include leather sports seats, unique floor mats, stainless steel scuff plates and silver trim inside and on the front grille surround.

The Fiesta also comes with driving aids including Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), power assisted steering and a electronic brake force distribution.

Anthony Ireson, Ford of Britain's marketing director, said: "This Ford Fiesta special edition gives the customer great exterior styling with an enhanced performance engine. Customers love that we create Fiestas with special features that prove to be real head-turners."

New Ford Fiesta Metal prices start from £15,695 on-the-road and only 1,000 will be sold across the UK. Ford is offering its latest supermini-based hot hatch in black, blue or white.

The Ford Fiesta Metal is not the only hot hatch Fiesta set to arrive in the UK. This month the car maker unveiled a new Ford Fiesta ST concept, a high performance version and the second in the sporty ST range after the new Ford Focus ST.

The car is only in the concept stage at the moment but it is expected to be launched in future. Meanwhile, the Ford Fiesta Metal is on sale in dealerships now.
