The best engine of all-time? Ford’s popular 1.0-litre EcoBoost unit has claimed an unprecedented third straight ‘International Engine of the Year’ award.
As well as taking the top award, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost powerplant was also named the ‘Best Engine Under 1.0-litre’ for the third year running.
The engine, which can be found in the Ford Fiesta and nine other models from the Ford UK range, was praised by judges as “one of the finest examples of powertrain engineering".
In order to reclaim the award, Ford’s renowned engine had to fight off competition from premium brands and supercars – highlighting its popularity and acclaim in the automotive world.
A panel of 82 automotive journalists from 35 countries named the 1.0-litre EcoBoost the overall winner for its “drivability, performance, economy, refinement and technology".
Bob Fascetti, vice president, Ford Powertrain Engineering, commented: “To deliver the complete package of eye-popping fuel economy, surprising performance, quietness and refinement we knew this little 1.0-litre engine would have to be a game changer.
“Through our One Ford approach to development, EcoBoost continues to set the benchmark for power combined with fuel efficiency from a small petrol engine."
The acclaimed engine has now won 13 major awards since its inception, including seven ‘International Engine of the Year’ awards in three years.
