Audi has unveiled its new A6 saloon ahead of its arrival in UK showrooms in spring 2011.

At its peak the A6 will be available with a choice of nine drivetrains including a petrol-electric hybrid option.

However at launch just four engines will be available, comprising of one petrol and three diesel units.

The range-opening engine will take the form of a 175bhp 2.0-litre TDI which is the cleanest and most efficient engine on offer with the A6.

Its CO2 emissions will fall just under 130g/km while its combined fuel consumption stands at 57.7mpg.

At the opposite end of the diesel spectrum sits a powerful 3.0-litre TDI with an output of 242bhp or 201 bhp, both variants are fitted with Audis iconic Quattro all-wheel drive system.

The TDI’s have CO2 emissions of 157 and 137g/km and a combined fuel economy of 47 and 54.2mpg respectively.

Audi’s petrol offering for its A6 saloon is a potent 3.0-litre TFSI engine that outputs 300bhp. It is electric from 0-62mph clearing the speed in just 5.5 seconds.

CO2 emissions and fuel consumption figures have seen an improvement by 19 per cent on the current A6 and, according to Audi, this is courtesy of a number of systems including start-stop, energy recovery and thermal management systems.

In addition the German marque has described its new line-up of gearboxes as beneficial to economy.

Included in the A6 line-up is a manual six-speed transmission, a continuously variable multitronic CVT and a new S-tronic twin-clutch.

These improvements are all in spite of an increase in width for the A6 which improves passenger space and legroom within the executive saloon.

To that end, a number of luxury additions are also included in the A6’s cabin. There’s a wraparound dash panel that holds a 6.5-inch retractable monitor that incorporates a 3D satellite navigation system and audio system.

There will be two specification levels; the entry-level SE and the range-topping S-line.

Pricing for the new A6 opens at £30,145 with order books opening in January. holds a number of Audi A6 business lease deals.
