A new special edition Volkswagen Golf GTI is on sale now in the UK from £27,525 to celebrate 35 years of the class-leading hot hatch in the UK.
The long-running performance version of the German hatchback has been designed to celebrate the milestone in the UK, but Volkswagen has revealed there will not be a limited number of models sold.
Instead it will take orders from customers from this week for the Golf GTI 35, which features some upgrades over the standard Golf GTI.
These include a new body kit featuring new side skirts and a new 'wraparound' front bumper. Other additions to the exterior include LED daytime running lights, bi-xenon headlamps and a new design for the 18" alloy wheels.
As expected from a model celebrating 35 years of the Golf GTI, '35' badges adorn the front wings and interior upholstery and floor mats.
However, the four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged engine used in the standard GTI remains but has been tuned to deliver 25PS more power at 235PS. This gives the car a 0-62mph sprint time of 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 153mph.
Despite the impressive figures, the Golf GTI 35 delivers CO2 emissions of 189g/km and a fuel economy figure of 34.9mpg.
Prices for the new Volkswagen Golf GTI 35 start from £27,525 for the three-door model with a manual gearbox. A DSG gearbox can be specified for an extra £1,295 while five-door models start from a little over £28,000.
The standard Volkswagen Golf hatchback is one of the most popular cars in the UK and was named the fourth biggest-seller in the UK in August.
Prices for standard Volkswagen Golf models start from £16,000 in the UK for entry-level 'S' models, while GT versions start from £21,000.
