Vauxhall has revealed a new performance-based model, the Vauxhall VXR.

Although Vauxhall has only recently released a new model, the Vauxhall GTC, its new VXR model will differ in terms of power and challenge cars such as the Ford Focus ST.

The VXR is a three-door hatchback with a 2.0-litre engine that delivers power of 280bhp. This power gives it a top speed of 155mph.

The VXR features some new mechanics which includes a new unique slip differential which helps the cars handling when approaching corners at speed. A new button has also been added which gives the car a different type of driving experience. This is called the 'VXR' button.

This new 'VXR' button will go alongside the 'Sport' button, which also offers a specific type of driving experience.

Just by glancing at the interior and exterior of the VXR it is clear that a new 'revamped' design approach has been taken.

New interior design features include performance seats, chrome-effect highlights and a new steering wheel.

Distinctive exterior features include newly designed and sculpted front and rear bumpers, two exhaust pipes and extended side skirts.

The Vauxhall Astra VXR will go on sale in the UK in 2012 and prices will be revealed closer to the launch date.
