Toyota has updated the Hilux pick-up for 2012 with a range of new technology.
New Toyota Hilux prices will start from £16,090 when the pick-up goes on sale in October, up against the likes of the Volkswagen Amarok and the Ford Ranger.
To go with its new price range, the Japanese manufacturer has updated the looks of the Hilux with a restyled front-end.
That comprises of a new grille, a new bonnet and new headlamps which are littered with chrome inserts to give a more upmarket feel to the pick-up. The side skirts have also been upgraded for the top-of-the-range Invincible model.
That same theme has been carried inside the model with a range of high-end equipment and technology making the move from its standard car range to the muscular pick-up.
Toyota has fitted its ‘Touch’ multimedia audio system – also seen on the 2012 Yaris - on the Hilux’s new dashboard and instrument cluster. It comes with a 6.1-inch colour touchscreen along with Bluetooth connectivity and USB hook-ups to sync with digital music players.
Three trim levels are available from launch with the Touch multimedia system fitted as standard on the high-end H3 and Invincible models however it comes as an optional extra on the range-opening H2 models. Three bodystyles are also available in Single Cab, Extra Cab and Double Cab.
Two Euro 5 compliant diesel engines make up the Hilux’s engine line-up with the addition of a diesel particulate filter (DPF) slashing CO2 emissions and improving fuel economy.
The smaller engine – available as standard on H2 and H3 trim levels – is a 142bhp 2.5-litre D-4D unit which returns 194g/km in CO2 emissions on the Double Cab and 38.7mpg across all bodystyles; a ten per cent improvement over the last generation.
At the top of the engine range is a large 3.0-litre D-4D diesel which is available with the Invincible trim. It emits 227g/km in CO2 emissions and returns 36.7mpg with its manual transmission (32.8mpg with automatic) for the Double Cab bodystyle.
