Despite the weather, summer is the ultimate time to be cranking up the volume in your car. But it's vital to pick the right tracks for your playlist! Askaprice has decided to buck the 'top ten' trend with some newer, alternative songs that cool kids listen to...

After hours of sitting back and working our way through various songs, we've come up with some belters to enjoy for that Sunday drive this summer:

Paris - Friendly Fires

This is the second single from the self-titled album of this band way back in 2008, but it has stood the test of time. An alternative dance track, it is a dreamy piece of lyrical genius that many people see as one of the best songs of the last decade. Try the remix by Aeroplane and we guarantee you'll have it on repeat all day!

Love Lost - Temper Trap

A perfect melody for a summer breeze, the Temper Trap shot to fame with 'Sweet Disposition' in 2009. But we see this track from the Australian rock band as their best ever. In fact, 'Science of Fear' was on FIFA 10, but when you hear the Keljet remix of this you'll understand why it has made our list.

Shining Star - Nneka

The highly-rated Nigerian-German soul singer that is Nneka Egbuna is forging a great name for herself at the moment. This track that was part of the 'Soul Is Heavy' album released this year is a real hit - also check out the Joe Goddard remix!

Over and Over - Hot Chip

This electronic band hailing from London has been around since the turn of the century. A well-known track from their second album, 'The Warning' made it into the UK top 40 for March 2006. A song that holds an addictive capacity, it needs to be there for the summer road trips.

Pumped Up Kicks - Foster the People

Indie pop and summer driving kind of go hand in hand, especially when it's from a likeable band like these guys. Their debut album from last year was a huge success, and that plus this tune were nominate for Grammy Awards. Check out the Young Life remix for a different take on this popular beat.

Big Jet Plane - Angus & Julia Stone

If someone says a sibling duo to you, chances are that you will shout out Oasis, but these guys are worth a mention too. The track was released in 2010 and received single of the year in Australia. An absolute must is to get on the Adam G remix, a great song.

Express Yourself - Labrinth

Best known for tracks like 'Pass Out' and 'Earthquake', Labrinth has become a huge success across the United Kingdom. This, his latest hit, is a real feel good song and perfect for listening to in the sun.

Another recent track, this tune by George Reid and Aluna Francis has got huge acclaim. With the former on music and the latter with the vocals, this clear-cut style has created a huge buzz. This is a top track, and check out the Bondax remix for extra kicks.
