Celebrities! Everybody loves celebrities. And there’s going to be loads of them driving at this year’s Silverstone Classic, hailed as the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival.
Taking place from
20 – 22 July 2012
(at Silverstone Circuit, of course), it’s three days of non-stop fun for all the family. There’ll be air displays, live music, classic car auctions, car clubs, fun fairs and much more for everybody to participate in. It’s the quintessential day out for auto-obsessed families, with more than enough things available for kids of all ages to enjoy, too.
The Thrill of the Chase
One of the main draws is the Silverstone Classic Celebrity Challenge which takes place on Saturday 21 July. It’s all for a good cause, as it’ll help raise money to support the Bobby Moore Fund, the Birmingham Children's Hospital and both Crohns and Colitis charities. They won't be driving any old hunk of junk, either - instead, participants will line up on a grid of competition-prepared Morgan race cars, digging deep and calling on all their skill to take the gold.
This year’s celebrities include Chicken Little actor Sir Patrick Stewart, asparagus inventor Heston Blumenthal, Ronnie Wood’s ex Jo, raunchy twinkle toes Brendan Cole, bulging Emmerdale hulk Kelvin Fletcher, the guy who’s currently going out with Eileen on Corrie (Tony Hirst), Funny Dave from Radio One and many more stars from a world different from our own.
A Fun, Family Day Out
For people that enjoy new cars, but aren’t into the ‘classic’ scene as much, there is a wealth of things for them to do over the weekend. Live concerts include rock heavy-hitters Adam Ant, Mike & The Mechanics, Snakecharmer, the ‘Taking Care of Elvis Show’ and others.
Though plans still aren’t finalised, it’s expected that The Blades (former Red Arrow pilots) will be doing an air show much like the one that blew the crowd away during the 2011 show (not literally). People can relax with food and drink at the Village Green, ladies can treat themselves to a massage in The Cloud, people can drive around on a specialised 4X4 track, shop from over 100 featured exhibitors, take a helicopter ride and more.
Tickets start from as low as £5 for children and £45 for adults when booked in advance, and can also be bought on arrival at Silverstone. We heartily recommend a visit as new car brokers if you’re in the area. This will be the 22nd annual event, and there’s a reason why it’s still going strong. It’s a great day out for friends and family alike!
