Renault's latest sport model is the fastest in itss history in the UK as it looks to knock the Volkswagen Golf GTI off its perch.
Renault will launch its fastest ever road car in the form of the Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy this month, with 265bhp at its disposal.
The French manufacturer will fit the new model with a 2.0-litre turbo engine capable of clearing 0-62mph in six seconds, an improvement of a tenth of a second on the previous generation as well as a new top speed of 158mph compared to the 156mph of old.
To cope with its power and its ‘fastest ever Renault’ title, the new 265bhp Megane has had its chassis tweaked to give a stiffer ride which will, according to Renault, help the hot hatch challenge the likes of the Volkswagen Golf GTI at the top of the segment.
It will be finished in Renault’s signature yellow metallic or metallic black and both will be fitted with 19-inch gloss black alloy wheels along with red rimmed tyres and red brake callipers.
LED daytime running lights and a unique numbered plaque will complete the exterior. Inside, Recaro sports seats are fitted along with yellow seatbelts.
Just 50 versions of the Megane Renaultsport will be made available in the UK at a price of £27,820 while just 500 models will go on sale worldwide.
Those lucky enough to get their hands on the new model in the UK will be allowed free access to the Renaultsport UK track for track days throughout 2012.
Customers can expect their Megane Renaultsport 265 Trophy in July with order books opening on 20 June.
