The new Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4, the world's first diesel hybrid car, will cost £26,995 and is available to order from today.
Peugeot has released full 3008 HYbrid4 prices as pre-orders opened for the groundbreaking crossover car today.
The Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 is the first car to use the diesel hybrid system comprising of an electric motor to drive the rear wheels and a diesel engine to drive the front wheels to create a 200bhp 4x4 system.
Traditionally, hybrid cars use a combination of electric power and a petrol engine because of the costs associated with using diesel technology.
However, Peugeot is the first to reduce costs enough to use the technology in a road car and the result is a large family car with road tax-free CO2 emissions levels of just 99g/km.
Capable of driving in purely electric mode for short distances, the new Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 is the greenest SUV on sale in the UK today.
Peugeot hopes the 3008 HYbrid4 will compete in the SUV sector by offering a practical green alternative - a claim backed up by the car's victory in the What Car? Green Car of the Year 2011 SUV category this week.
Chas Hallett, Editor-in-Chief at What Car? commented on the award for the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4: "The world's first production diesel hybrid is the best hybrid the What Car? team has driven. The joint power sources work together seamlessly and emit only 99g/km of CO2.
"This means the car is exempt from both road tax and the London Congestion Charge. The SUV sector continues to be popular, and we can see a waiting list for the Peugeot growing very fast."
The Hybrid4 technology seen in the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 will also be used in the new Citroen DS5 and the forthcoming Peugeot 508 RXH saloon.
