The new Vauxhall Movano has come third in the commercial vehicle category at the latest MPG Marathon.
The result of the lightweight commercial vehicle surprised many critics at the Fleet World MPG Marathon- vans are not the first vehicles to come to mind when we think of fuel economy.
Yet the Movano, driven with economic driving techniques was able to improve on its published fuel consumption figure by 13.91 mpg.
The official mpg figure for the Movano sits at 34.9 mpg, yet this result could be translated into a 40% reduction in fuel bills.
The 2.3 litre CDTi L3 H2 model, travelled a total of 380 miles on the marathon course around the south of England. The results are proof of the innovative technology and economy claims of the manufacturer.
The Movano is available in over 29 bodystyles, with either front or rear wheel drive, as a result of its modular platform.
The van houses the a generation of Vauxhall CDTi engines, designed to effect lower fuel consumption and reduced CO₂ emissions.
The family of four cylinder, common-rail diesel engines have a lower capacity than the outgoing model, yet they are capable of delivering higher levels of torque across its rev range.
This means more power, with less of the negative side-effects.
All models come with a six speed manual transmission and meet the Euro4 emissions standards.
Prices for the new Vauxhall Movano start at £20,250.
