This also means they not just qualify for zero congestion charge, but are also exempt from paying emissions-based road tax, or VED, in the UK.
All MINI models come equipped with Euro5 compliant engines and both the One D and Cooper D have a fuel consumption of 74.3 mpg- a record for a BMW group model.
Both models are similarly fitted with a number of economic systems and technologies under the MINIMALISM title, comprising of Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start-Stop and Electromechanical Power Steering.
The One D and Cooper D both come with a standard six-speed manual transmission.
The congestion charge previously enabled any alternative fuel vehicle to drive for free in the congestion zones under the Alternative Fuel Discount however this did not always translate into the greenest cars being exempt.
Under its new title the Greener Vehicle Discount allows the cleanest cars to feel the benefit of that technology.
As such, models like the Toyota iQ, Citroen C3 Airdream+ and the Volkswagen Golf 1.6TDI Bluemotion are now exempt from the congestion charge.
Jochen Goller, Director for MINI UK said: “MINI has been the quintessential London car for the last 51 years, so we welcome this week’s news that our two cleanest and most efficient models can zip around the city free of charge.
