After a number of leaked images Mercedes Benz has been forced to reveal the next generation M-Class.

Mercedes has finally revealed the new M-Class SUV after a number of images of the premium model were released earlier this week.

The German manufacturer’s hand has been forced however not before time with the challenger to the Range Rover set for release next spring.

The five-seat off-roader has been given a new look thanks to a restyled front-end which is more in-keeping with the Mercedes’ executive range than the previous generation.

Its front headlights sweep towards the rear of the car while a more muscular front grille has been added between daytime running lights, situated in the front bumper.

Throughout the design process, Mercedes has had one eye on weight reduction and aerodynamics to improve the efficiency of a model which should better the likes of the Range Rover in terms of fuel economy and emissions.

At the front-end air flow has been optimised with new spoilers on the front wheels, roof and windows as well as a sealed radiator with an adjustable shutter. Sections of the new model have also been made with carbon fibre components to reduce weight.

The modifications allow the next generation M-Class to be the most efficient in its history with a 25 per cent improvement across its engine range which comprises of two petrol and one diesel unit.

Unsurprisingly the diesel is expected to be the most efficient in the range and it comes in the form of a four cylinder unit, returning 47mpg and 158g/km in CO2 emissions. The engine range is completed by one 3.0-litre V6 and one 3.5-litre V6 petrol engines.

The premium SUV will arrive on forecourts with a wide range of driver aids and safety technology ranging from a Blind Spot Assist system, Lane Keeping Assist and a fatigue detection device. It also comes with a permanent four-wheel drive system called ON&OFFROAD which uses six transmission roads including two off road, one sport and a specially devised trailer mode for use with a trailer.

Pricing for the new Mercedes Benz M-Class has yet to be revealed however it is expected to be announced closer to its release date.
