Rumours surrounding Lamborghini have been rife as to whether its new third model would be a four-door saloon or an SUV.
The Italian manufacturer has revealed that its newest model will in fact be a saloon along the same lines as the Estoque saloon-concept that was unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show.
In an interview with Autocar, Lambo boss Stephen Winkelmann said: “We really have a choice when it comes to an additional model: an SUV or a four-seat four-door. And for me the SUV is a no-go. It doesn’t exist in our price segment, and it’s not a real luxury car."
It seems the Italian manufacturer’s next luxury car will take the form of a saloon- hardly surprising given its popularity at Paris two years ago.
Winkelmann continued: “[The Estoque] had a more enthusiastic response than we had expected. It was the right time to see if the brand could go outside of supercars. Even now, people are still emailing me about us making the Estoque."
Powered by a potent 5.2-litre V10 engine and with a top-speed of 190mph, the Estoque was set for production before the Italian marque cancelled production to begin a weight-saving project, more true to the company’s heritage.
The poor economic climate was also blamed for the cancellation however the new project resulted in the Sesto Elemento.
The performance of Lamborghini models like the Sesto in emerging markets like China – where luxury saloons are thriving – making a new four-door saloon seem all the more profitable.
A Lamborghini Estoque would rival the likes of the Aston Martin Rapide and the Porsche Panamera with a pricetag of around £200,000.
