The Jaguar XJ saloon has beaten off competition from the likes of the BMW 5 Series and the Audi A4 in scooping the Top Gear Luxury Car of the Year 2010.
The Jaguar XJ saloon has beaten off competition from the likes of the BMW 5 Series and the Audi A4 in scooping the Top Gear Luxury Car of the Year 2010.
The XJ is the flagship model in Jaguar’s revamped range and since its May launch it has collected a number of awards including the Scottish Luxury Car of the Year and the What Car? Luxury Green Car of the Year.
Top Gear magazine editor described the triumphant saloon as a “Blast from the future," commenting that “rarely has a new car slackened so many jaws."
The big cat’s flagship saloon has a distinct coupe-like profile giving the saloon a sleek-look; more in-keeping with the likes of Maserati and Bentley than its German counterparts.
Under the bonnet the XJ is powered by a range of petrol and diesel engines including a 3.0-litre V6 diesel, a 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8, a potent 5.0-litre supercharged V8 as well as 470bhp version of the supercharged variant.
Jaguar UK’s Managing Director, Geoff Cousins said: “The Jaguar XJ brought a bold new approach to the luxury car market in the UK with its distinctive design, generous accommodation, exceptional performance and strong economy credentials.

Despite the nature and size of the XJ’s engines, its lightweight aluminium architecture has made it the most efficient luxury car in its class.
In six months of sales the flagship Jag has garnered a 29 per cent segment share.
Pricing for the award-winning Jaguar XJ starts at £53,900.
