It’s March 2011. Honda production has slowed worldwide because of the horrific events of the Japanese earthquake, hitting the company’s Tochigi operations hard. Various specialist plants have to close because of the damage; its global operations hitting overtime to power the company through the tough times.
Fast-forward to today and an impressive rise in sales figures is helping the company banish those painful memories. Last month saw an incredible 3,625 Hondas being sold; a sizeable jump from 2,835 in May 2011. Honda models outstripped the competition – Volvo managed to sell 2,649 units while Renault sold 2,814 in total.
A Profitable New Era
The upturn in fortunes is being widely accredited to the new Honda Civic 1.4 i-VTEC SE, released in February this year. The positive press has been astonishing – the Civic being lauded by critics and industry professionals alike because of its impressive technology, phenomenal looks and value for money.
In fact, the British-built Civic 1.4 i-VTEC SE has recently been crowned Parkers Cost of Motoring New Car Awards 2012 overall winner. The judges were emphatic in their remarks, highlighting the Civic’s amazing value for money over a three-year period. So, how do Parkers define value? They analyse new cars for road tax costs, fuel consumption, servicing, breakdown cover and vehicle depreciation.
Managing Director of Honda’s UK arm, Dave Hodgetts, is ecstatic with the praise the Civic is receiving. “This is a fantastic result for the new Civic. It has only been in dealerships since February and to have received this accolade so soon is a great achievement. What makes the award even more special is that it is based on fact. Thanks to Parkers’ very clever cost of motoring tool, we can officially say that the new Civic is the best value new car out there!"
The recent success of the Civic has been reflected across dealerships, showing that consumers’ trust in the brand is extremely high. New franchises are continually springing up across the United Kingdom, with Head of Dealer Development at Honda UK, Nick Campolucci, also lavishing the Civic with praise.
“The continued investment into Honda franchises, by a variety of existing and new partners illustrates that despite challenging economic conditions, businesses have the confidence to invest in Honda. With an all new Civic recently launched and new CR-V to follow later this year, 2012 sees two key models in our car product line-up refreshed."
The Power of Dreams
Impressive powertrain engineering complements the Civic’s technology, with a digital display at the base of the windscreen allowing drivers to see crucial information without taking their eyes from the road. Its spacious interior guarantees a comfortable drive – the boot in particular is an excellent storage space that has been called roomier than that of the Ford Focus or Volkswagen Golf. A smooth 1.4 engine allows for a relaxing drive, but the option is also there to invest in a 1.8 litre petrol model or 2.2 diesel for those that want speed as well as style.
The Honda Civic is currently available from £199 a month, on a three-year basis at 6.9% APR. A three-year complimentary service plan can also be included. To learn more about the Honda Civic, or to request a brochure, check out our Honda Civic deals and prices.
