Happy 52nd Birthday! Jeremy's Top Five Clarkson Cars

Though we can imagine that Jeremy’s had his fair shair of derision today, we reckon the king of controversy will care less. The UK’s most-famous petrolhead turns 52 today, where he’ll no doubt be lavished with presents from friends, loved ones and maybe even his colleagues at the BBC...

Happy 52nd from Askaprice, Jeremy! Happy 52nd from Askaprice, Jeremy!

Clarkson cars are as famous as the man himself thanks to the journalist's lengthy stint on Top Gear. While himself, the gerbil and the hairy one are busy putting the world to rights on-screen with their own brand of camaraderie, Jeremy’s garage at home is no doubt bursting at the seams with an amazing collection of new cars. There has been a number of Clarkson cars collected by the man himself over the years, all of which have complemented his passion for motoring over the decades.

Below are five Clarkson cars we've discovered that have been Jeremy's pride and joy over the years:

The Ford Cortina 1600E

We all have to start somewhere. We all have to start somewhere.

The Ford Cortina 1600E was the first in an incredibly long line of Clarkson cars. Jeremy is known in private circles for his love of Ford, especially fast models that take his breath away. The Ford Cortina 1600E was Jeremy Clarkson’s first ever car - an 88 horsepower saloon with sporty features that rose to prominence during the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.

The Volkswagen Scirocco Mk1

The Mk1 was Jeremy's favourite. The Mk1 was Jeremy's favourite.

The Volkswagen Scirocco Mk2 was first to be considered on our list of Clarkson cars, but we thought we’d be kind seeing as it’s his birthday. So what was Jeremy’s problem with the Mk2? Well, he decided to invest in a white steering wheel to match the bodywork, for one... His feelings for the Mk1 are at the other end of the spectrum, though. While, at the time, Jeremy wanted a Golf GTI, his discovery of the Mk1 saw him exceed the 54,000 mile mark in a year, such was his love for the motor.

The Mercedes-Benz SLK 55

Jeremy visited Hammond after his near-fatal crash in the SLK 55. Jeremy visited Hammond after his near-fatal crash in the SLK 55.

It was a typical day for Jeremy. He was driving a Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 for Top Gear, whilst being shot at by army snipers, when he decided that he loved it so much that it would become part of his collection of Clarkson cars. Plus it had the added bonus of being faster than James May’s boxster. Jeremy is a self-confessed AMG fan, so the SLK 55 fit him like a glove when he decided to invest.

The Ford Escort RS Cosworth

A boy racer for the eternal boy racer. A boy racer for the eternal boy racer.

We already know that Fords are Clarkson cars close to Jeremy’s heart. He’s been quoted as saying “I love fast Fords" – he even went as far a few years ago to apparently describe the Ford Escort RS Cosworth as one of his favourite cars of all time. Not many Clarkson cars can hold that accolade... Jeremy’s version came in metallic green, and legend has it that he was given an insurance quote of £25,000! (If he was our friend at the time we would have suggested car leasing).

The Range Rover TDV8 Vogue SE

Ain't she a beaut? Ain't she a beaut?

Talking about it in his Sunday Times column, Jeremy lavished immense praise on the Range Rover TDV8 Vogue SE, citing it as ‘the best car in the world’. Some recommendation indeed! But perhaps the biggest endorsement the car got was that it became one of his very own Clarkson cars, with Jeremy stumping up the money to add it to his collection. He is a family man, after all, and will need a practical vehicle from time to time. So why not go for the world’s best car? Typical Clarkson class! We hope he got a great PCP deal when he bought one...
