Fiat’s TwinAir technology has received Top Gear’s Engine of the Year award despite only being available since October.

The Top Gear award follows a similar accolade from American magazine Popular Science for the two-cylinder engine that powers Fiat’s popular city car -the Fiat 500.

The successful engine weighs just 85kg and registers CO2 emissions of just 95g/km meaning it has the lowest CO2 emissions of any petrol engine car in production.

In comparison with the equivalent 1.2-litre petrol equivalent on the Fiat 500 the TwinAir engine offers 23 per cent more power and a 15 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.

Elena Bernardelli, marketing director at Fiat Group Automobiles UK and Ireland said: “We were confident when we launched the TwinAir engine that our customers would like the combination of power, low emissions and fun to drive.

“So it’s an added pleasure when experts from the motoring media also give us such high praise."

Pricing for the Fiat 500 TwinAir range opens at £10,665.

Askaprice.com holds a number of Fiat cars including the popular and prize-ridden Fiat 500.

As well as new and used Fiat 500 cars, the car-buying website also has Fiat 500 business lease deals.
