Toyota scooped an impressive accolade last year as its Verso MPV was awarded the highest mark in its category in the Euro NCAP safety tests.

The seven-seat compact achieved a maximum five-star rating for all-round performance from the safety institution as well as the highest combined percentage scores in each test category for any MPV ever tested by Euro NCAP.

In the adult occupant protection test the Verso scored 89 per cent – its highest in the tests – while also achieving 75 per cent for child occupants, 69 per cent for pedestrian impact performance and 86 per cent for safety assistance.

Toyota’s latest iteration of the Verso people carrier has been subjected to a new design and construction – most notably at its front end – which is catered to reduce the injury risks to pedestrians.

Pedestrian impact performance is becoming increasingly valued at the safety testing organisation and by 2012 all cars must exceed 60 per cent in this category to stand any chance of grabbing all five stars from Euro NCAP.

As well as a new design the Verso also plays host to seven airbags as standard and ISO-fix child seat mounts.

In terms of safety assistance the Toyota MPV is also littered with a range of driver aids that includes ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), traction control (TRC), steering-assist Vehicle Stability Control (VSC+) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC).

The results are a ringing endorsement for Toyota whose reputation has suffered a drop over the last 12 months after issuing recalls on three of its models.

Askaprice.com – one of the UK’s leading car-buying websites – holds a range of Toyota models including the popular Verso MPV on a range of different purchase options. This includes Toyota Verso Business Contract Hire plans.
