The crossover SUV has replaced the more traditional MPV at the top of the large family car stakes, according to data from Askaprice.com.
Research by the car-quotation website found that in February the crossover SUV was far more popular than the MPV.
All in all, crossovers had more than double the amount of lead enquiries than MPVs.
The Kia Sportage was the most popular crossover last month with more than two and a half times the amount of lead enquiries than the Vauxhall Zafira – the most popular MPV at Askaprice.com.
In a combined top ten list of MPVs and crossovers, only three were MPVs in the form of the Vauxhall Zafira, the Vauxhall Meriva and the Ford S-Max who finished in third, fifth and eighth position respectively.
The combined top ten list made for better reading for crossover models and particularly Nissan who featured with three separate crossover models.
Nissan is now synonymous with its crossover models and is often credited with their mainstream acceptance on the back of the Qashqai’s success.
It is the Qashqai which is Nissan’s most popular crossover in the shortlist coming in second place whilst the Qashqai+2 and the Juke finished in sixth and seventh position.
Vauxhall proved its all round quality again in the top ten with three models consisting of two MPVs and one crossover model who accommodated the bottom three places in the top five.
