Alfa Romeo has added a new diesel engine to the 159 compact saloon and estate models, alongside a new trim level.
The new drivetrain is a 136bhp 2.0-litre diesel unit and it will sit at the foot of the iconic JTDM engine range. It will be priced from £22,500 for the saloon model, rising by £1,200 for the estate (Sportswagon model).
Other engine choices include a 1.75-litre 200bhp turbo petrol and a 170bhp 2.0-litre diesel.
The new engine is Euro V compliant and comes with a variable geometry turbocharger that results in increased torque at low-end revs. However it also covers the ‘green’ argument with CO2 emissions at 134g/km for the saloon (137g/km for the estate) and a combined cycle fuel economy of 55.4mpg or 54.3mpg in its estate guise.
The new divetrain will join the current engine line-up as an entry-level unit on the new Turismo trim level – one of three options on the 159.
The Turismo specification includes six airbags, cruise control and dual zone automatic climate control as well as new sports cloth upholstery, a CD player with MP3 hook-up and Bluetooth connectivity.
Sitting above the Turismo trim is the Lusso trim which has been designed with comfort in mind according to Alfa.
Lusso adds leather upholstery, rear parking sensors and a visibility pack to the Turismo model as well as 17-inch Multi-spoke alloy wheels.
At the top of the range is the TI trim level which has been developed with performance and sportiness in mind.
On the outside it comes with large 19-inch alloys, side skirts and a lowered sports suspension which all hint at its performance orientation while the inside completes the trend with wraparound black leather Sports seats, sports pedals, carbon fibre inserts and a sports steering wheel.
