Vehicle repairs and servicing - your rights
So, you've bought a car, but there's a problem. Here's what you need to do next.
If things go wrong
If something goes wrong, go back to the dealer straight away, explain the problem and say what you want done.
If the dealer is a member of a trade association that follows a code of practice, then visit www.motorindustrycodes.co.uk for advice and information on a whole range of motoring issues from new car codes, service and repair and vehicle warranty products, you can also call for advice on 0800 692 0825.
For information on The Office of Fair Trading's Consumer Codes Approval Scheme (CCAS) which aims to approve and promote business-to-consumer codes of practice which provide benefits to consumers that go beyond those provided by law and find out which sectors of business belong to the code and how to make a complaint please follow this link: Approved Codes of Practice
If the car is still under manufacturer's warranty, then contact the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
