Founded in the London borough of Vauxhall in 1857 (before moving to Luton in 1905), Vauxhall Motors was originally named after its founder Alex Wilson and Company. The manufacturer made the move from making pumps and marine engines to creating five-horsepower single-cylinder cars which were steered using a tiller in 1903. After this success Vauxhall began to concentrate on developing sporty models. Since these early years and adapting to markets after two world wars Vauxhall cars have become more practical. With models such as the Viva, Cavalier, Astra, Calibra, and Corsa Vauxhall have created more icons of British automotive manufacturers than anyone else. Adding to this Vauxhall also has a proud tradition of providing quality vans and commercial vehicles.
